
Software Engineer II, Forward Deployment
Job Description
The Opportunity As a Software Engineer II, Forward Deployment at Flock, you will help customers successfully implement and integrate our technology within their existing technical environments. This customer-facing engineering role connects product development with implementation. You will work directly with customers to understand their systems, configure integrations, resolve technical issues, and support reliable deployments. You will collaborate with Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams to improve integration capabilities and create more consistent implementation experiences. Insights from your work with customers will also help inform future product and process improvements.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with customers to understand their technical environments and integration requirements
- Configure, test, and support integrations between Flock technology and customer systems
- Lead technical discovery conversations and communicate implementation requirements clearly
- Troubleshoot issues involving connectivity, APIs, data formats, system configurations, and application behavior
- Write and maintain software that supports reliable and repeatable integrations
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to address technical challenges and improve integration capabilities
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation guidance, and troubleshooting resources
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences
- Support customer deployments remotely and onsite, with approximately 25% to 50% travel
What You Bring Required Qualifications
- Professional software engineering experience using a language such as Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript
- Experience working with SQL, including writing queries and evaluating query performance
- Familiarity with REST APIs, authentication methods, and request and response structures
- Working knowledge of networking concepts such as VPNs, firewalls, IP allowlisting, and SSL/TLS
- Experience using Git and collaborative software development workflows
- Familiarity with common data formats, including JSON, XML, and CSV
- Experience diagnosing technical issues and identifying practical solutions
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with customers and cross-functional colleagues
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% to 50%
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with customers in an engineering, implementation, solutions, or consulting role
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
- Experience using Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization technologies
- Experience with data analysis, automated deployment practices, or machine learning applications
- Experience developing or supporting system integrations

30-60-90 Day Plan First 30 Days
- Learn about Flock’s technology, customer implementation processes, and common integration workflows
- Become familiar with the team’s systems, tools, documentation, and software development practices
- Build relationships with colleagues across Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams
- Observe customer discovery conversations and implementation activities
- Begin contributing focused code or documentation updates with support from the team
First 60 Days
- Begin configuring and supporting established customer integrations
- Troubleshoot connectivity, configuration, API, and data-format issues
- Participate in technical discovery conversations with customers
- Develop a deeper understanding of the different technical environments in which Flock’s technology is implemented
- Contribute improvements to documentation, troubleshooting guidance, and integration processes
First 90 Days
- Manage customer integrations from technical discovery through implementation and ongoing support
- Lead customer-facing technical conversations with appropriate support from the broader team
- Help ensure integrations are reliable, maintainable, and clearly documented
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product colleagues to address recurring implementation challenges
- Recommend improvements to software, tools, documentation, and internal processes based on customer implementation experiences
Salary & Equity In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $100,000 and $130,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, and market indicators. Flock does not offer performance bonuses.
