Job Description

About the team The Adoption, Innovation, and Transformation (AIT) team within OpenAI for Government helps government organizations turn OpenAI products into durable capabilities and measurable mission impact. We work alongside government leaders and public servants to move from exploration to confident, responsible, organization-wide use of AI, including our Cyber and Daybreak capabilities.

Our work combines strategic communications, hands-on enablement, adoption strategy, deployment support, and community building, tailored to government missions and operating environments.

About the role We are seeking a Cyber Enablement Lead to help government cyber professionals turn Daybreak’s capabilities into stronger defenses and measurable mission outcomes. This role combines technical credibility, hands-on teaching, strategic communication, and cross-functional leadership.

You will own Daybreak’s government product enablement strategy and personally design and deliver the training that brings it to life. Your work will span audience research, curriculum design, recorded demonstrations and courses, hands-on workshops, executive briefings, and cyber councils. You will work directly with U.S. and international government cyber leaders to translate frontier AI capabilities into practical workflows that address operational challenges.

You will also partner with the cyber product team, bringing customer feedback, deployment challenges, and adversarial context into product development. Your work will help shape best practices for adopting and deploying our cyber tools, strengthen government cyber defenses, and inform the direction of these capabilities.

You will engage across the government cybersecurity ecosystem, including Authorizing Officials (AOs), CISOs, cyber operators, developers, and senior executives. Practitioners need practical proficiency; executives need a strategic understanding of our cyber products, their value, and their implications for mission and risk. Success means demonstrated capability, sustained adoption, and better cyber outcomes.

This role is based in Washington, D.C. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. Travel and regular work from government customer sites are required.

In this role, you will

  • Set the vision and own the execution of Daybreak’s government enablement strategy, from audience research and learning objectives to curriculum, delivery, and measurable mission impact.
  • Serve as a trusted cyber ambassador for OpenAI, leading substantive conversations about our tools and capabilities with U.S. and international government leaders, customers, and the broader cyber community.
  • Help government leaders understand and respond to AI’s changing cyber landscape through executive briefings, public speaking, and thought leadership grounded in operational experience.
  • Personally lead technical training, live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and executive conversations that help AOs, CISOs, cyber operators, developers, and senior leaders apply Daybreak to their work.
  • Bring frontline experience into product development. Serve as a key point of contact for Daybreak Blue and Red, translating user feedback, deployment friction, and unmet mission needs into actionable product recommendations.
  • Create practical learning materials, including scripts, recorded demonstrations, interactive labs, digital courses, videos, facilitator guides, and playbooks.
  • Convene and lead our cyber councils, bringing leaders and practitioners into candid conversations that surface hard questions, share field lessons, and build a community of practice.
  • Deliver tailored engagements for specialist teams and repeatable learning programs that equip thousands of practitioners to use Daybreak effectively.
  • Translate frontier capabilities into practical government workflows across the cybersecurity lifecycle, connecting Daybreak’s applications and deployment requirements to challenges such as critical infrastructure security and defense of critical networks.
  • Develop practical guidance for human-machine teaming in cyber, including where AI adds value, where human judgment is essential, and how teams validate results and act responsibly.
  • Coordinate across product, security, deployment, and customer teams to address adoption barriers and keep enablement technically accurate, operationally relevant, and current as capabilities and requirements evolve.
  • Assess demonstrated proficiency, track sustained adoption, and use evidence of stronger cyber performance and mission outcomes to improve programs.

You might thrive in this role if you

  • Hold an active security clearance, preferably TS/SCI
  • Bring deep cybersecurity expertise across threat modeling, vulnerability discovery and validation, prioritization, remediation, detection, incident response, and recovery, with the judgment to connect these disciplines to government missions.
  • Have deep fluency in Daybreak’s capabilities, applications, and deployment requirements, and can translate that knowledge into credible advice and practical government cyber training.
  • Have personally built and delivered cybersecurity enablement that changed how people work, from focused engagements with specialist teams to programs reaching thousands of practitioners.
  • Are a compelling speaker, writer, educator, and hands-on creator. You can set the strategy, write the script, record the demonstration, build the lab, and lead the workshop, roundtable, or private executive session.
  • Can earn trust in executive briefings and technical deep dives, adapting your language, examples, and level of detail while giving audiences a clear reason and a practical way to act.
  • Know how to read a leader and a room. You combine presence and emotional intelligence with humility, listen carefully, welcome hard questions, and make people comfortable learning something new.
  • Understand government cyber missions, security requirements, and operational constraints, ideally across DOW, federal civilian agencies, and state and local government, and can build approaches that work within those realities.
  • Turn ambitious goals into disciplined execution, leading cross-functional work, incorporating feedback, and taking ownership of demonstrated proficiency, sustained product use, and stronger defenses.
  • Have built and led teams of cyber enablement professionals, setting a high bar for technical credibility, teaching quality, and execution while helping others grow.
  • Bring a practical understanding of U.S. cybersecurity laws, regulations, and policies, and can explain their implications for government adoption and deployment.
  • Have served in a government cyber role and bring a deep commitment to the people behind the mission, including public servants, warfighters, and the intelligence community.
